During 1999, XTO acquired interests in about 1,500 wells and
a gas gathering system in the giant Arkoma Basin. Discovered
in the late 1920's, the basin extends from central Arkansas
into southeastern Oklahoma and is known for shallow production
decline rates, multiple formations and complex geology. XTO
is now the largest gas producer in Arkansas, with control
of 40% of the state's production and 500,000 gross acres of
leasehold.
